The Nine Veils of Illusion: A Journey of Awakening

Most of us sense, deep down, that reality is not quite what it seems. We live our lives moving through layers of perception, each one feeling solid and absolute, until one day it isn’t. Something cracks, the light gets in, and suddenly we realise there was a veil over our vision all along.

The teaching of the Nine Veils of Illusion is a way of describing this process of awakening. It isn’t a ladder to climb or a dogma to adopt, it’s more like a set of mirrors. Each veil shows us where we’re currently identified, and each unveiling invites us into a deeper, freer experience of what we truly are.

In this article, I’ll take you step by step through these nine veils. For each one, I’ll share what it is, how it tends to hold us, and what helps us begin to move through it. I’ll also weave in some of what I’ve seen in my work with Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT), because many clients spontaneously experience shifts through these very layers when in contact with their Higher Self.

The First Veil: Basic Literacy

The very first veil sounds simple, but it’s enormous. It’s the veil of basic literacy, the ability to think symbolically, to read, write, and understand abstract thought. For most of human history, only a tiny elite had access to this veil. Breaking through it meant entering a world of story, law, mathematics, scripture, and philosophy.

In our modern world, this veil is technically lifted for most people, yet many still live in a kind of trance, consuming information passively without truly thinking. The real awakening here is not just learning to read, but learning to read reality itself. To notice patterns, to ask questions, to realise that life can be interpreted in countless ways.

Meditation helps here, as does journaling, taking your raw experience and giving it symbolic form. In QHHT, this often shows up as a client suddenly realising they’ve lived many lives before, and that their soul has been “reading and writing” the story of existence all along.

The Second Veil: Political Illusion

Once we begin to think for ourselves, the next veil becomes obvious: the illusion that our institutions, governments, and media are neutral arbiters of truth. Many people never pierce this veil; they stay glued to the official story, outsourcing their discernment.

Breaking through means recognising that systems are built on incentives, that narratives are crafted, and that the “truth” offered to us is often partial or distorted. This stage can be painful. Anger and betrayal are common. But if we stay stuck in outrage, we’re still caught in the veil. The key is to move beyond cynicism into discernment: “I see the game, and I choose where to place my attention.”

Meditation and detox from media are powerful here. So is asking the Higher Self what is worth my focus? Where is my energy truly needed? The answers are often surprising and deeply liberating.

The Third Veil: Historical Fabrication

Beyond politics lies history itself. We begin to realise that the story we were told about our past is edited, curated, and sometimes outright fabricated. Ancient civilisations that held advanced knowledge vanish from textbooks. Technologies disappear. Myths are dismissed as superstition when they may be encoded memory.

This is where many people first feel the stirrings of Atlantis, Lemuria, or other lost epochs. In hypnosis sessions, I’ve seen clients recall lives in these civilisations with startling detail. Whether literal or archetypal, the effect is the same: our sense of human history is shattered, and we awaken to the vast, cyclical nature of existence.

The practice here is curiosity. Study multiple sources, remain humble, and be willing to say, “I don’t know.” History opens like a hall of mirrors, and our role is to walk with steadiness, not to fight over which mirror is the “real” one.

The Fourth Veil: Spiritual Blindness

Here, we awaken to the reality of the soul. Up until now, we may have lived as if we were only a body and a mind. The fourth veil dissolves when we experience, directly, that consciousness is more than matter.

Meditation, breathwork, or even a spontaneous mystical experience can break this veil wide open. Suddenly, we sense energy flowing, we feel presence around us, or we simply know we are more than the body.

In QHHT, this is often the moment a client hears their Higher Self for the first time. The tears, the peace, the recognition: Ah… I am more than I thought.

The danger here is chasing phenomena, psychic visions, energy surges, mystical fireworks. The truth is far simpler and more profound: the soul is always here, and silence is its native language.

The Fifth Veil: Hidden Agendas

The fifth veil reveals the shadow side of human power. It’s where we begin to see coordinated patterns, elite control, hidden rituals, manipulations of culture, and the use of symbolism to direct mass consciousness.

This is a difficult veil because it can produce fear and despair. It’s tempting to get lost in endless research, to dig deeper into darkness until the soul itself feels heavy.

The key here is not just seeing the shadow, but learning to transmute it. To recognise that even the darkest structures cannot rule a sovereign, awakened heart. Prayer, embodiment practices, and the conscious refusal to feed fear are essential.

When we confront this veil, we often receive reassurance from our Higher Self: Yes, there are forces of control, but you are far vaster than them. Choose love, choose freedom, and their spell breaks.

The Sixth Veil: Extraterrestrial Reality

For many, this is the most mind-expanding veil: realising we are not alone. The universe is full of life, and humanity is part of a vast galactic family.

This veil can appear gradually through dreams, synchronicities, or gentle inner contact. For others, it arrives suddenly, an undeniable sighting of craft, a direct encounter with beings, or a telepathic exchange that leaves no doubt.

In my own experience, working with CE-5 protocols and going on field expeditions, I’ve learned that when you begin to sincerely look for contact, it will often come to you in amazing and surprising ways. Sometimes the contact is subtle, like unusual lights responding to intention; sometimes it’s profound, like a feeling of being wrapped in an energy field of pure presence.

The practice here is discernment. Not all beings are the same. Some operate in service, some in manipulation, and most in neutrality. The key is to attune your heart. True contact feels loving, peaceful, and non-coercive. Anything else can be politely declined.

What ultimately matters is not “proof” or convincing anyone else. What matters is the quiet, life-changing recognition that I am part of something so much bigger.

The Seventh Veil: Interdimensional Awareness

This veil shows us that reality is not a single linear timeline, but a weave of dimensions, frequencies, and overlapping possibilities. Dreams, synchronicities, déjà vu, and altered states are small tears in the curtain, brief glimpses of the layered fabric behind ordinary perception.

At this stage, it becomes clear that life is not fixed; it is fluid. One choice, one shift of state, one deep realisation, and reality can subtly (or dramatically) reconfigure itself. You begin to sense that multiple versions of you exist, and that timelines are not sequential; they overlap, interact, and sometimes bleed through into one another.

Practices like lucid dreaming, astral exploration, and timeline journaling can be transformative here. Even psychedelics, when used with respect and intention, can open doorways into this multidimensional field, revealing just how thin the veil really is. But the deepest truth of this stage is simple: state creates timeline. The vibrational frequency you embody is the version of reality you walk into.

This veil teaches profound responsibility. If you carry fear, you will encounter fearful realities. If you cultivate love, synchronicities multiply and benevolent timelines unfold. It is not about forcing or controlling—it is about tuning your being, and allowing reality to harmonise around you.

The Eighth Veil: Sovereign Creator Consciousness

At the eighth veil, we step fully into the recognition that we are creators. Life is not something happening to us, it is responding to the frequency we broadcast.

This is where manifestation practices truly make sense, not as wishful thinking, but as vibrational authorship. The challenge is consistency: how do we remain in coherence when the old reality pushes back?

Morning practices, coherence meditations, and prayer-as-alignment are vital. In QHHT, the Higher Self often reminds clients: You don’t need to control outcomes. Hold the state, and the reality will reorganise itself.

The Ninth Veil: Infinite Mystery

Finally, the ninth veil is not about mastery at all, it’s about surrender. Here, the seeker dissolves. The ego no longer grasps for control, and the great Mystery is allowed to simply be.

This veil often feels like deep peace, paradox, or even emptiness. But it is not nihilism, it is freedom. The realisation that life is not a puzzle to be solved but a mystery to be lived.

Meditation, self-inquiry, and the gentle practice of being with what is, without needing it to change, are the essence of this stage. In hypnosis, I’ve seen people reach a place where words fall away, where only silence and light remain.

Beyond the Nine

Some say the journey continues, into Christ Consciousness, the dissolution of all paths, even the role of cosmic creator. Whether these are literal veils or poetic descriptions doesn’t matter. What matters is that awakening has no end. Life is always inviting us deeper. The journey does not end at the ninth veil. In truth, awakening is endless. Each unveiling simply reveals another horizon. While the classical teaching stops at nine, many mystics, explorers and visionaries speak of veils beyond this point. Here are a few possibilities:

10th Veil: Christ Consciousness / Love Embodied

Walking as awakened love in the world, fully human and fully divine, living service without effort.

11th Veil: The Path Dissolves

Realising there is no seeker and no journey, only pure Being. The spiritual search itself falls away.

12th Veil: The Cosmic Architect

Consciousness begins to create new archetypes, patterns and worlds. Creation flows through without resistance.

13th Veil: Return to the Unmanifest

All form dissolves. Even consciousness rests in stillness, silence and the void beyond Source.

14th Veil: The Dream Blossoms Again

From the stillness, new realities emerge. They are playful, experimental, born of love rather than need.

15th Veil: Eternal Unfolding

The realisation that awakening has no final destination. Love and curiosity continue blooming forever.

These are not dogma, nor rungs on a ladder. They are poetic signposts, pointing toward the truth that awakening is infinite. Each veil you pass through simply reveals a deeper intimacy with what already is.

Closing Reflections

The Nine Veils are not rigid stages, nor are they a measure of how “advanced” someone is. They are lenses through which consciousness explores itself, and each of us moves through them in our own rhythm. They are a map, and like all maps, they are not the territory. But they can help us recognise where we are, what’s shifting, and how to trust the process.

For me, the most profound realisation is that awakening doesn’t make life less ordinary, it makes it more ordinary. Washing dishes, walking in nature, speaking kindly, all of it is the unveiling of God.
